Harrison Manufacturing
launches new look

As part of an ongoing review and upgrade of all aspects of our operations, we have unveiled a bold and exciting new image for the organisation.

The refreshed imagery which is captured in the colours and style of this first edition of our Newsletter will become an integral part of Harrison Manufacturing moving forward.

The updated corporate identity is designed to celebrate the evolution of the company, which has developed from a small operation into a significant player in the grease and oil industry both here in Australia and in overseas export markets.

Harrison Manufacturing's new corporate makeover was unveiled at a company launch event held in Sydney.

The function was attended by management, staff and shareholders and featured guest speaker Olympic basketball star Andrew Gaze who spoke about the need for organisations to remain nimble and agile in today's competitive business environment and for colleagues to work closely as a team to achieve united outcomes.

Behind the new image

The brief to the design team behind the new Harrison Manufacturing corporate identity was to evolve the existing logo without losing the equity and goodwill that had been built up over the past 60 years.

As you will see, the new design is grounded in the familiar orange colour that has been part of our logo since the company was founded in the 1940s. It also draws upon the famous 'H' block letter that has been representative of the company.

Rather than a radical departure, the new look features a stylised 'H' which has been drawn in a way that is reminiscent of oil or grease being poured across a flat surface.

The logo is also accompanied by a new tagline 'Fluid Thinking'. This has a dual meaning: firstly, it captures what Harrison Manufacturing does - manufactures products that are generally fluid in their physical nature. Additionally, the tagline reinforces the attributes so many of our customers and partners highlighted as being a key point of difference for us i.e. our ability to be flexible, adaptable and innovative in the way we think and work with our customers and partners.

Innovation

Developing the future

Harrison Manufacturing understands the importance of building a strong skill set amongst the talented next generation. In line with this, the company offers a unique opportunity for University and TAFE students to experience both manufacturing and product research and development within the one organisation.

Robyn Peters, Human Resources Manager, explained: "As we reinvigorate our brand, we also recognise the need to support students in fields of study relevant to manufacturing. The industry is currently experiencing some of the most challenging times in history. We need to ensure we support innovative and talented individuals who will drive our industry forward."

In 2011, Yvonne Buchhorn, an undergraduate student studying Mechanical Engineering (Manufacturing and Management) at the University of NSW, found the three month Industrial Training program at Harrison Manufacturing to be an invaluable experience. At the conclusion of the program, she said: "The experience gave me the opportunity to independently learn and to gain confidence in my abilities. The project moved quickly from the data analysis stage to implementation and some of my ideas were even put into practice!"

Safety

Investing in our people

At Harrison Manufacturing we place huge emphasis on the health, safety and wellbeing of our employees. As part of our ongoing investment in our people we recognised that our work environment posed some unique challenges for our employees around hydration and the impact of shift work on health and wellbeing. We therefore decided to roll out a 'wellness program' earlier this year for our Operations Team to proactively address the issues.

Duncan Hunter, an experienced accredited practicing dietitian, was in charge of the program rollout. Duncan explained: "I believe the wellness program was a success at highlighting the various challenges facing the factory employees' health. Key health indicators were highlighted during the health checks and some staff used pedometers to track activity throughout the program.

"As a corporate health care provider, you don't usually see wellness initiatives in companies with less than a few hundred staff so in my opinion, Harrison Manufacturing is an innovative company which genuinely cares for the health and wellbeing of its employees."

The next stage in the program's roll out, will involve all lab and office staff and is following a similar format. We are looking forward to all employees having a healthy start to 2012.
